Camp Amache Trip

The Historic Preservation Alliance of Colorado Springs and JASSC are sponsoring a charter bus trip to Granada, CO to visit the site of a WWII internment camp (“Camp Amache”) for U.S. Citizens of Japanese descent.

The Annual Camp Amache Pilgrimage is a day to remember those of Japanese descent who spent more than three years imprisoned on the plains of southern Colorado. Efforts have been made for a number of years to preserve and restore this infamous page in Colorado & U.S. History.

The day’s events are as follows:

6:30 a.m. Parking/Check-in at Young Life Center, 420 N. Cascade Avenue

7:00 a.m. DEPART ON TIME!

8:30 a.m. Arrive at Senior Center, La Junta CO for restrooms/snack & coffee

11:00 a.m. Arrive in Granada CO
Memorial Service, Amache Cemetery
Lunch at Granada High School, arranged by Amache Preservation Society Program, Museum Tour, Camp Tour

3:00 p.m. Estimated departure for return trip

6:30 p.m. Estimated arrival at Young Life Center, Colorado Springs

Other sponsoring organizations include the Japanese American Association of Colorado (Denver) and Friends of Amache (Amache Preservation Society, Amache Historical Society, and the Amache Club).

The registration deadline has passed and the bus is full. If you missed it, we'll see you next year.
